Shramajivi Mahila Samity address to certain core issues:-
Women Empowerment :-
One of the prime issue of SMS to empower the socially downtrodden, under
privileged and exploited tribal and marginalised women through
organizing them into meaningful and effective groups by capacity building and skill
development so that they can access their rights.
Livelihood :-
Shramajivi Mahila Samity strives to develop livelihood in farm as well
as non farm sectors by resource generation, skill building and potential tapping. Both
at the individual as well as family level and enable them towards sustainable
development. Focus is on women exercising their land and livelihood rights.
Governance :-
Shramajivi Mahila Samity emphasises and local empowers the
target groups on self governance like Gram Sabha and Mahila Sabha etc. It ensures
equal participation of women in the local self governance and political area. Women
raise their issues in the Gram Sabha and find out solutions that can be implemented.
Food Security :-
Shramajivi Mahila Samity strives to ensure food security for the
community as a whole irrespective of the economic status of the family right at the
grass root and BPL level. This is ensured deeply at the local village level. It further
attempts to live up with the govt. food distribution system for convergence and
entitlement to the genuine hunger and poverty stricken. Further it is working on the
community level so that village group formation is done and these village groups
chalk out strategies to ensure food security and implement at their respective village
level to action sustenance.
Reproductive Health :-
Shramajivi Mahila Samity has contributed and emphasises
on the reproductive health of the women and adolescent girls of the community. It address
the entire life span of these women and kishories as a whole pertaining to their reproductive
health. It further takes about the need and significance of reproductive rights of women and
adolescent girls. It also caters to the all round personality development of these kishories so
that they can be groomed to access their human rights, which is the need of the hour.
SHG and Economics Development :-
The economic status of the community is so
poor so that resources cannot be created at the individual level. Hence SMS initiated
to form self help groups. These self groups are motivated and morally supported to
develop strategies to create resource at the group level. These SHG’s are then linked
to the banks and financial institutions, so that they can access credit facility for
economic activities that are viable and sustainable, SMS has been successful to form
and provide training and capacity building, so that the SHG’s are able to create a
space for themselves in the competitive market. Literacy and education serves as a
tool to control and manage the entire affairs on their own.
Indigenous People :-
Shramajivi Mahila Samity has always been a pioneer in
contributing to the development of the indigenous people as a community, the focus
has always centered around the women, specially tribal women and the under
privileged women. It addresses the tribal women, their community and the impact of
nature on them. Nature and natural resources are the basis around which tribal women
inhabit and so the access of natural resources for the indigenous people is so specific.
SMS motivates and inclines these indigenous groups through formation of associations and
groups and train them to equip in capacity and skills enhancement.
Human Rights :-
Shramajivi Mahila Samity has always been sensitive towards
human rights through the beginning. It perceives human rights an issue for different
strata of the society like the primitive tribes, the single women, the disabled and the
political and reproductive rights are infringed upon by different communities in the social
setup in numerous ways. Hence SMS focuses on the rights of single women and has
undertaken a project to enable these women to form the main stream of the society
and groom them socially, politically, psychologically and economically to exercise
their human rights and curve a place of dignity for themselves.
Capacity Building and Skill Development :-
Shramajivi Mahila Samity has always
been a front winner in contributing towards the capacity building and skills
development . This is an important activity of SMS and it has always catered to the
capacity building and skill development of the various groups like SHG’s, Mahila
Mandals, Artisans, Bidi-Mazdoors, Adolescent-Girls, Gram Sabha, Village
development youths groups, Farmers and Labour groups and every sector of the
women. In skill development SMS concentrated on self development leadership
skills, personality development, management and supervision skills, and formulation
of planes and its effective implementation.
